Just to say that the District Scout Camp went really well over the week-end
Jack and Tom ran a really good patrol camp, with Josh, Luke, Sabrina, Jason, James and Kimberly.
Â
The two best things about the camp were clearly, the fine weather and Rod, our new Leader who arrived in the country from Brazil only last week. Rod ( Rodrigo) is a most strong, lively and lovely man, there seemed to be nothing he couldn’t do and was always there to help me and the scouts with anything they needed. He taught us so many new skills; climbing a rope, using a felling axe, singing songs in Portuguese, making omelettes, cutting string without a knife and telling us stories about camping in the jungle where there were snakes big enough to swallow a cow!
Â
The scouts devised their own menu, did the shopping and cooked all of the meals on a woodfire and enjoyed hikes, campfires, field games and learning new skills. We also celebrated Tom’s 14th birthday with a meal and a cake.
Â
With such a lot of help from Rod and from the older scouts I was able relax a bit, I organised a hikes off-site for about 50 scouts and gave the talk and the service on Sunday.Â
There were about 100 boys and girls on the camp from troops all over the district, we made many new friends, but Tom seemed to have made a ‘special friend’ who appeared to have attracted him to visit the Deptford scout camp quite a lot! ( Well, it was his birthday!)
