• Young Leaders’ Canoe Expedition

On the Sat. after scout Summer Camp Eddie, the 3 PLs Luke, George and Josh and 4 canoes were whisked a few miles down the M40 to Oxford where we joined-up with our 5 Young Leaders Kweku, Jack, Rebekah, Joseph and Tom who had travelled-up from London by coach.  We all spent 2 nights at 22nd Oxford scout base by the riverplanning & practicing canoe packing and team work before setting -off on Monday morning.  They had been working with the local Duke of  Edinburgh Award assessor to make their first 2 days a DofE bronze Award journey. Eddie was unhappy with this demanding 20 miles canoeing on day 1 and 15 miles on day 2 , but he was delighted and amazed to find they managed these exhausting distances, against strong winds and with enthusiasm.

Eddie joined them on Tues night for a 2 night camp at Mapledurham and then to move-on to camp at Henley and finally to Marlow on Friday.   Lots of blisters, card games, meals together, laughs, a few arguments but lots of memories and satisfaction all round.   Pictures in Gallery. 2 Albums.
